For CBS, ‘0’ vs. ‘O’ turns into ‘Hawaii Five-Oh-No’

CBS insists that the 0 in its "Hawaii Five-0" remake, alluding to Hawaii being the 50th state, is the number zero, not the letter — but it is in a minority.

In a news release, the network compares what people call "Hawaii Five-Oh" to the 0s in James Bond 007, pronounced "double-oh seven." When the Los Angeles Times wondered why, CBS explained that correctness is needed in Internet searches.

Indeed, a Google search turned up nearly 1.7 million results using the letter, and only 270,000 with the number zero.

"Blame society," a CBS insider told the Times. "This is really for editors and for people who want to type things correctly. I know there aren’t many of them because accuracy has taken a back seat to immediacy."

‘Forever’ is a long time

Listen up, all you snail-mail users: Time to stock up on those "Forever" stamps.

The U.S. Postal Service is again proposing to raise first-class stamp prices, this time by 2 cents, to 46 cents. The proposed increase, if approved, is still months away — but likely, given that the USPS is facing a $7 billion deficit this year. Already in the works: The USPS is seeking Congress’ OK to end Saturday delivery for the first time since six-day service began in 1863.
