‘Five-0’ win? Yes he Caan

Scott "Book ’em, Danno" Caan has one for the books: the first-ever "Hawaii Five-0" Golden Globe Awards nomination, for either the legacy series or the current CBS TV hit.

The original, in which the late James MacArthur played Caan’s crime-fighting sidekick role, did get multiple Emmy nominations in its day. But all four of the awards the series actually won — including its two Emmys — were for composer Morton Stevens.

The other two were TV Land Awards in 2007 and 2008 for "TV Theme Song You Want for Your Ringtone." Sure, nobody cares about the TV Lands, but you gotta admit, that’s a pretty cool distinction.

Hold on to that Obama lei

Hawaii’s tourism industry will have to wait a few days before receiving this year’s yuletide shot in the arm from the White House. The first family had planned to arrive this weekend in President Barack Obama’s childhood home for its annual Christmas vacation but Scrooge, in the form of Congress, continues work on the tax-cut deal.

"I think the president is hopeful to spend a little time with family and friends in Hawaii, but if Congress is here the president will be here," press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters in Washington. The lame-duck session of Congress is supposed to finish Friday, but that could be extended. Meanwhile, Obama waits in D.C. to sign bills into law, even though he could do that in Kailua.
