Hawaiian Airlines adds new Airbus to fleet

Hawaiian Airlines has added a fourth A330 to its fleet.

The airline said Monday the latest addition is the first A330 that Hawaiian has received in a purchase agreement with Airbus.

Hawaiian plans to add up to 32 new Airbus aircraft to its fleet by the end of the decade.

The new plane is to serve the airline’s busiest routes between Honolulu and Los Angeles and Las Vegas in the coming months before being used for international service later this year.

The plane is named Hanaiakamalama, which is the Hawaiian name for the Southern Cross constellation.

Hawaii is the only state from the Southern Cross can be seen in the night sky. It is believed ancient Polynesians used the constellation to navigate their way to the Hawaiian Islands.
