The Kauai Police Department has identified the victims of Tuesday’s crash of a powered-glider crash that killed two people in waters off Honopu Beach in the Na Pali Coast State Park.

Killed were pilot Steve Sprague, 48, of Kalaheo and passenger Ray Foreman, 53, of Vista, Calif., police said today.

The National Transportation Safety Board today plans to arrange for recovery of the wreckage of a powered-glider that crashed in waters off north Kauai, killing the pilot and passenger.

An NTSB investigator plans to be on Kauai today to make the arrangements, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.

The aircraft is believed to be a P&M Aviation Ltd.’s Pegasus Quik, he said.

According to a P&M Aviation webpage, the Quik is a microlight, at the “cutting edge” of flexwing aircraft development, “designed to offer speed, climb, performance, comfort, quietness, and above all – relaxed flying in weather conditions avoided by the normal flexwing pilot.”

“With is light handling, precisde feel, over 100 mph top speed and over 80 mph trimmed cruise speed, the Quick is the ultimate cross country machine,” according to the company.
