Identity of man’s body found at Hawaii island beach is sought

Hawaii County police are trying to determine the identity of a body found over the weekend at a secluded Kau beach.

At 10:27 a.m. Saturday, a boater who landed at Waikini Beach north of South Point discovered human remains at a campsite.

Police found remains of what they believe is a male, 5-feet 9-inches tall, with long brown hair. He was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Brown hiking shoes and socks were located at the campsite, along with a blue backpack and white plastic grocery bags filled with empty food cans and empty soft drink containers. P

An autopsy conducted Monday also showed no evidence of foul play. The cause of death was undetermined.

Detectives believe the man may have died one or two weeks before being discovered. Police ask that anyone who knows of anyone missing who fits the description of the person found or who has information about a possible identity call Lt. Gerald Wike at 326-4646, extension 266.
