State warns of jury duty scam involving fake deputies

The Hawaii Department of Public Safety is warning the public about a scam involving people impersonating sheriff deputies.

According to the warning, the imposters claim to be serving warrants to people who did not show up for jury duty and offer to clear the warrant is the victims pay for a product or service.

The Sheriff Division said in a statement that deputy sheriffs "will never call people about warrants having to do with jury duty or solicit the purchase of anything."

Anyone having received such a call is asked to contact the Sheriff Division at 587-1352.
