French cinema icon Catherine Deneuve will be the guest of honor at the Hawaii European Cinema Film Festival next month and will receive the Christina Hassell Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 71-year-old actress will be the special guest at the festival’s red carpet awards gala Oct. 23 at the The Moana Surfrider and her recent film, “Standing Tall,” will be the festival’s closing selection. Ashort Q&A session will follow the screening of “Standing Tall.”

The festival runs from Oct. 16-24 with free screenings of all its films. For festival information, go online to hawaiieuropeancinema.org.

Deneuve has lit up screens since the age of 13, starring or appearing in 121 film and TV projects. She’s known for a variety of roles, including Roman Polanski’s “Repulsion,” Luis Bunuel’s “Belle de Jour” and Regis Wargnier’s epic drama “Indochine.”

Hawaii European Cinema is the rebranded EuroCinema Hawaii, which organized an annual festival for five years in a partnership with the Hawaii International Film Festival. A split with HIFF earlier this year prompted the creation of the new festival.
