Man in custody after allegedly shooting ex-girlfriend in Kalihi

A 25-year-old man was in custody today after police said he shot his ex-girlfriend in Kalihi Valley.

The man was arrested for investigation of second-degree attempted murder at 9:45 p.m. Friday at Best Western The Plaza Hotel, 3253 N. Nimitz Highway.

Police were looking for the man after he allegedly shot a 31-year-old woman at about 12:30 a.m. Friday. Police said the woman was driving on Kalihi Street when her ex-boyfriend pulled up next to her in a Ford Explorer and shot at her multiple times.

The woman was struck in her left shoulder, and about three bullets hit the driver’s side door, police said.

The woman flagged down a police officer and paramedics took her to a hospital in serious condition.

Later that morning, police spotted the Ford Explorer on Beretania Street in downtown, but another person was inside. Police arrested the driver on suspicion of a traffic offense.

Correction: This story has been updated to show the man allegedly shot the woman Friday morning, not Thursday morning.
