Power has been restored to many of the 960 electricity customers affected in Makiki after two power poles were knocked over by high winds.

About 180 customers were without power this evening.

One of the poles landed on a small apartment building but there were no reports of injuries.

Hawaiian Electric Co. crews responded to the downed poles, near 1522 Keeaumoku St. and Makiki District Park, this afternoon.

Motorists in the area should expect traffic delays, with southbound lanes of Keeaumoku closed until Friday morning, city officials said.

Power was also reported out for 420 customers in Kalihi Valley early this afternoon but it was restored by 2:10 p.m.

The Hawaiian islands remain under a high wind advisory through 6 a.m. Friday, with east winds of 25 to 40 mph and gusts over 50 mph.

“Winds will be strongest over and downslope to the west of the mountains on all the mountains including the central valley of Maui, central

Oahu and the Waianae coast of Oahu,” National Weather Service forecasters said.
