Brush fire backs up traffic near Whitmore Village
Wind whipped up a brush fire that closed Kamehameha Highway for several hours this afternoon near Whitmore Village.
The fire was reported at about 11:25 a.m. near Kamananui and Kaukonahua roads, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Scot Seguirant.
Police said Kamehameha Highway was closed from Whitmore Village to Helemano Plantation because of the fire. It was reopened at about 3:30 p.m.
