INDIANAPOLIS » Officials at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis are warning students to remain indoors amid police reports of an armed robbery near the Indianapolis campus.
The campus issued an alert shortly after 3 p.m. today. It says “a subject with a gun has been reported running toward campus” and urges students and staff to find a safe shelter and lock doors.
Indianapolis police spokesman Officer Rafael Diaz says an armed man robbed a person near an off-campus apartment and fled in the direction of campus. He says the robbery victim was not injured.
IUPUI spokesman Rich Schneider said at 4 p.m. that the campus just west of downtown Indianapolis remained on alert.
Diaz says police are searching the campus for the man, who was reportedly carrying a black handgun.
