Closures, shelters announced as severe weather continues across Hawaii

With severe weather occurring around the state, a number of closures and shelters have been announced by local officials.
SCHOOLS CLOSED
As of 6 a.m., all Hawaii Department of Education public schools and offices are scheduled to be open Tuesday, with the exception of three Oahu schools: Pearl City Highlands Elementary due to extensive flooding on campus,, and Farrington High, large fallen tree on campus, and Red Hill Elementar, power outage.
OAHU SHELTERS NOW OPEN
The City of County of Honolulu opened four shelters as a precaution. They are:
>> Kalakaua District Park, 720 McNeil St., Honolulu;
>> Makaha Community Park, 84-730 Manuku St., Waianae;
>> Sunset Beach Recreation Center, 59-540 Kamehameha Highway, Haleiwa;
>> Kailua District Park, 21 S. Kainalu Drive, Kailua.
HAWAII COUNTY SHELTERS NOW OPEN
>> Hawaii County has opened two emergency shelters in Kau, in Pahala and Naalehu at the community centers; a third shelter at Keaʻau Armory opened at 4 p.m.
MAUI SHELTER NOW OPEN
>> Kihei Community Center, 303 E. Lipoa St.
PARKS & RECREATION
All Honolulu city parks and public park properties are reopening under their regular schedules this morning following severe weather closures yesterday afternoon. Damage assessments are being conducteand some individual park facilities may remain closed if deemed unsafe or unfit for public usage, officials sais.
The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation’s People’s Open Markets are cancelled for Tuesday. City officials said, “many park programs may be impacted by the soggy overnight conditions, so please call your event organizers to determine if the park activity is being held. For instance, the fields at Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Complex and the Patsy T. Mink Central O‘ahu Regional Park may be unusable due to heavy saturation.”
Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is regularly closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and is expected to reopen tomorrow.
>> Pu’uhonua o Honaunau and Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Parks are closed Monday. Both parks are experiencing flooding, high winds, high surf, and hazardous conditions. Normal operation expected to resume Tuesday.
GOVERNMENT OFFICES
First Circuit Circuit Court in Honolulu, downtown Honolulu District Court, and Appellate Courts will be closed Tuesday due to impacts of the storm. All other state courts remain open
