Hilo woman identified in pedestrian crash

Hawaii County police identifed today an 86-year-old Hilo woman, who died from injuries sustained in a pedestrian crash on Sept. 2, as Yoshie Oshiro.

Oshiro was one of two pedestrians crossing in a crosswalk at the intersection of Kinoole and Mamo streets who were struck by a Toyota sedan driven by an 88-year-old Honolulu woman.

Oshiro was taken to the Hilo Medical Center then medevaced in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, where she died on Oct. 20.

The second pedestrian, an 86-year-old woman from Honolulu, was taken in stable condition to the Hilo Medical Center.

Police reclassified the case to a negligent homicide investigation.
