Postal Service going ahead with relocation of Lihue office

In an announcement this afternoon, the U.S. Postal Service said it will proceed with relocating the Lihue Post Office.

“The Postal Service has determined that the relocation is the optimal solution to satisfy its need to improve operational efficiency and reduce the financial burdens facing the organization. The relocation will allow the Lihue Post Office to consolidate its delivery and retail operations, which are currently split between the two facilities,” a press release said.

The office will move from 4441 Rice Street to the Postal Services’ facility at 3230 Kapule Highway.

“This decision is final,” the press release said.

Community meetings were held in February and October after concerns were raised about the move.
