Diane S. W. Lee is the multimedia and engagement editor at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Prior to joining the Star-Advertiser in June 2018, she worked at Honolulu and Honolulu Family magazines for over five years. Her multimedia work was honored in 2017 and 2018 with national finalist awards in Multiplatform Storytelling by the National City and Regional Magazine Association. She has earned multiple state journalism awards from the Hawaii Society of Professional Journalists and the Hawaii Publishers Association.


Fluent in Cantonese-Chinese, Lee is among the first in her family to attend college. She received a Master’s degree in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois at Springfield, a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Bradley University and an Associate in Arts degree from Kapiolani Community College.


Lee is a graduate of McKinley High School and a proud alumnus of the Poynter and The Washington Post 2020-21 Leadership Academy for Diversity in Digital Media, Chips Quinn Scholars program, AAJA Voices and Poynter Institute Summer Fellowship. She currently serves as a board member on the Hawaii chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association, and mentors young journalists in her spare time.
