Synopsis: In tribute to the late Ilei Beniamina, Kauakūkalahale reprints an article by her from her weekly Hawaiian language column, Nā Nū Hawai‘i, printed in the Garden Island newspaper on Friday, Jan. 3, 1986. The introduction is by Keao NeSmith

Me nā ho‘omaika‘i ki‘eki‘e iā Ilei Beniamina no kāna mau hana a pau, ke pa‘i aku nei Kauakūkalahale i kekahi o kāna mau kolamu o kāna kolamu kū pule o ka Garden Island Newspaper o Kaua‘i o nā MH 1985 a me ka 1986.

‘O Nā Nū Hawai‘i ke kolamu ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i kū pule mua loa ma hope o ka ho‘opau ‘ia ‘ana o ka nūpepa, ‘o Ka Hōkū o Hawai‘i, i pani ‘ia i ka 1948.

“Ma ka inoa o ka makua, ke keiki, a me ka uhane hemolele, amene.

Aloha makahiki hou e na makamaka o ko Hawai‘i pae ‘āina. Ke hā‘awi aku nei au i ko‘u aloha makahiki hou iā ‘oukou a pau, a me ko‘u mahalo a nui loa iā ‘oukou a pau no ke kāko‘o ‘ana mai i kēia nūpepa e kākau ‘ia nei ma ka ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i.

• O ka ‘ehiku, e ho‘oikaika nou iho i pono no kākou a pau.

• O ka ‘ewalu, e mālama i ka maika‘i i ka nui o ka manawa.

• O ka ‘eiwa, e hō‘ao e noho like, mālama like i kekahi a me kekahi, a e aloha like i kekahi a me kekahi.

A‘ole ana paha hiki iā kākou ke no‘ono‘o mau i kēia mau kākau a‘u i kākau maila māluna nei i na manawa a pau, akā e hō‘ao nō.
